a walk in the park

This compilation of photos was exclusively taken in Washington Square Park in New York City. When one walks into the park, the melting pot aspect and the touristic destination that is Manhattan, is pretty evident from the number of photographers with their high-tech equipment and tourists constantly milling in and around the area with their extendable selfie sticks. But among the throng of tourists, NYU students and busy-looking corporate executives looking for a shortcut to the nearest MTA station, there are the Humans of Washington Square Park - pianists, emerging bands, drummers, magicians, artists, the clown who plays the accordion, the older guy who exclusively feeds sparrows and the one who prefers feeding the pigeons, chess players, street acrobats and the bubble guy. These faces have become as much permanent fixtures of the park as the fountain, the benches or the jungle gym.

Over multiple visits to Washington Square Park, my camera captured fleeting moments on a given day - as street photography does. These moments have only occurred at that exact time and space when I captured them. But others on the other hand will keep repeating over and over again everyday like clockwork and at the exact same spot in the park. One could capture these moments frozen in time any time you happen to visit Washington Square Park in New York City.
